Fiber Cement Shears
A small power tool for cutting fiber cement sheets.

fibro cutters
My old "Fibro Cutters"

When asbestos was banned and replaced with the new softer cement sheets the old tools like the one above did not work any more. The new sheets with their greater softness and flexibility don't take kindly to being sheared with this type of hand shear. They get clogged up really fast and than refuse to cut at all. It's a pity, because these tools were cheap and easy to use.

Without being able to use the old Fibro cutters, we were left with cutting cement sheets with saws, which caused a lot of dust both for the operator and the saw itself. Fine cement dust in electrical tools shortens their life span to be sure.

A tool designed to cut down the dust and mess of cutting cement sheets with saws has come onto the market in recent years is this modification and addition to what appears to be a standard looking electric drill.

These tools get you out of the dust zone, they are quieter and in the long run cheaper than saw blades. (You have to treat any blade that cuts anything as abrasive as cement as a consumable).

I have to admit that I have never used one of these tools but it gets very good reviews.
