Petrol Concrete Vibrator
A portable machine for vibrating concrete. A petrol engine drives a flexible shaft with a steel vibrating head, for immersing into wet concrete.

a petrol vibrator

Known as a "poker" this is by far the most common type of vibrator. The vibrator shaft is easily disconnected from the power unit for storage or transport.

  • This type of flexible shaft vibrator is known as an immersion vibrator because it is immersed in the wet concrete.
  • It has a shaft diameter of 1-1/2".
  • Smaller ones are available with 3/4" shafts that commonly use electric motors.
  • Larger 3" diameter ones are seen on larger pours that are driven by compressed air.

Other types of concrete vibrators are screed vibrators used in pavement work. These can vary from huge frames used in runway construction to small battery powered units attached to an aluminium screed worked by one man.

In pre-cast concrete construction using steel formwork purpose made electric vibrators are attached to the formwork.
