Ridge Vent
A horizontal vent to remove hot air etc. fixed to the ridge of a peaked roof.

a ridge vent

This type of roof vent runs along the ridge. It leaves small horizontal gaps each side of the ridge for the hot air to escape purely by convection. That is, the natural action of hot air rising. The vent along the ridge has fallen out of fashion because there are other more efficient methods of removing the build up of hot air inside a roof. See rotary vents.
