Shingle Clay Tiles
Flat or slightly curved terracotta tiles fixed with similar laps and gauges to wood shingles or slates.

terracotta roof tiles

The photo above show a terracotta tile roof in Kent UK. This type of flat tile does give a lot of flexibility in the roof design.

gable end treatment of roof tiles

Another similar roof in Kent, this shot of a gable end clearly shows the lap of the tiles. There are two nail holes in the top of each tile for fixing.

Note the neat feature of using the same tiles as the soffit and support for the small overhang. Note also the almost semicircular ridge tile.

hip tiles

Another shot of the same roof this time showing a detail at a hip. The same tiles are used for ridge and hip cappings and they can be used on just about all roof pitches or angles.

"What can be added to the happiness of a man who is in health, out of debt, and has a clear conscience?
All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind."
