Chimney Cricket
A section of roof framing to divert rainwater around a chimney or short parapet.

to shed water from behind a chimney

The roof framing for one of these can in most cases be very simple. Two boards cut to the right shape will be enough for a small chimney. Larger ones say for a feature entrance wall that rises above the fascia line are framed similarly to a scotch valley, a blind or California valley.

On shallow roof pitches a standard no ferrous metal flashing is usually used, sometimes in conjunction with a flat board to level off the sharp angle, but on steeper pitched roofs a cricket is the better construction.
