Gable roofs
Roofs with two sloping surfaces from the ridge (usually in the center, joining at the side walls .

Some pros and cons for gables.
  • Simple and fast construction.
  • More room inside the roof space.
  • There is more need for internal bracing, known as wind bracing.
  • Generally the gable walls tend to get a lot more weathering than say a hip roof. This is because of their extra height and the fact that the amount of overhang at the gables is restricted in standard construction. Special provisions must be made to support extra overhangs.
  • This is achieved by using an extended ridge, beams at the wall plate and fly rafters.
