Shed roof
A roof that has only one slope. It is normally sat on two parallel walls that have different heights. The difference in height being the fall or pitch or the roof. The other two walls have sloping tops.
Skillion Roof
An Australian term for the same single slope roof, although it is often also applied to the lean to roof also.
Lean to roof
The lean to is exactly what it says, it leans against another structure.

There has been for a long time the notion that these types of roofs are "cheap and nasty". Not any more! The word is cost efficent. With the use all steel construction, in particular roll formed purlins these roofs are coming back into fashion not only for commercial work but residential jobs as well.

These roofs atre fast to build, don't need expensive flashings and there are no riges hips or valleys to give trouble in years to come.

Typically the residential varieties can have flat suspended ceilings or simply just follow the slope.
