Tusk Tenon
A strong load bearing joint for trimmers in heavy floor framing.

a tusk tenon joint

This particular mortise and tenon joint is a blast for me the past for me, we were taught how to make these joints but hardly ever used them. I have worked in old factories and seen these heavy load bearing joints used on trimmers around stair wells etc. but time marches on and floors that carry the same loads today are designed with concrete or steel and they have passed out of the hands of the framing carpenter.
