Helm Roof
A roof usually to a rectangular tower that has four gables with the ridges rising from the gables to give the effect of a sharpened stake.
Used on steeples.



A helm roof

Presumably named after it's resemblance to a helm or helmet this roof is defined by the shape of the gables that it springs from.

A variation of the same roof sat on top of an octagonal tower, giving a completely different effect.
