Hipped gable
A roof that has a hipped end truncating a gable.

Also known as a Jerkinheard, a Clipped Gable and a Shreadhead roof.

hipped gable
Large gable overhangs on this Jerkinhead roof in Sapa, Vietnam.

The two photos here of French colonial buildings in S.E.Asia both seem to not cut the actual gable wall, so they may not comply with the strict definition of the term.

Leaving aside any questions of politics, it is sad that many beautiful old buildings in this part of the world are slowly slipping into decay.
