Tie Rod Truss
A roof truss that uses tie rods for the members under tension, ties, and solid timber or metal for the compression members.

An early 20Th century roof truss in Winermere UK. Tie rods are used here instead of a king post and also to replace the botton chords of what would be a scissor truss. An ideal way to save weight and to give an overall lighter appearance to the exposed roof structure.
